Köf-III 332.187 started her carreer in 1964 at the Deutsche Bundesbahn on the depot (Bw) Krefeld with the old number Köf 11 187. On 9 mai 1965 she was moved to Bw Düren, where in 1968 the number was changed into Köf-III 332.187. After cancellation of Bw Düren on 1 january 1984 the locomotive is moved to Bw Aachen-West.
In the autumn of 1994 the locomotive received an overhaul, shortly after which a cylinderheadgasket cracked, so it was put aside.
Becaus DB had several Köf-III locomotives at it's disposal, it was decided te leave the engine. Also because the companies policy was put aside all chain-driven locomotives.
Loco 332.187 of course was a chain-driven shunter, so finally it was officially put aside on 1 january 1995. The offical date to be out of service was 31 july 1995.
After that date the locomtive was offered for sale by DB, and on 26 august 1996 ZLSM was able to buy the 332.187. On 13 september the locomotive is taken to Simpelveld.
After replacing the defective cylinderheadgasket an some minor repairs, the shunter could already be taken into service at ZLSM on 27 september. After an extensive paintjob it was put into the colours of ZLSM.
At ZLSM, the loco also was given the name 'Spaniol', in honour of the DB-employee in Aachen-West, who helped us very much with the purchase of the locomotive and obtaining spare-parts
